EXCERPTS FROM THE HEALTH AND SAFETY RISK ASSESSMENT
The danger of prolonged sitting: Working in a temporary employment agency means having to spend a great deal of time in a seated position, particularly for all the tasks involved in recruiting candidates: analysing CVs, interviews, drafting and signing employment contracts, etc. This means that recruitment officers have to remain in a static seated position for almost seven hours a day, which is detrimental to both short-term and long-term health. This means that recruitment officers have to remain in a static seated position for almost seven hours a day, which is detrimental to their health in both the short and long term. The risks associated with working in a prolonged seated position will be exacerbated if the ergonomics of the workstation are not good. For example, using a traditional chair that does not have seat height adjustment and/or backrest tilt adjustment is an aggravating factor. Using an office or ergonomic chair can reduce these risks, but only if it has been adjusted to suit the body shape of the person using it. Prolonged sitting can lead to various musculoskeletal disorders, such as stiffness and neck pain, sometimes with the onset of osteoarthritis, muscular pain in the trapezius area of the upper back, as well as varicose veins and venous circulation problems. Over the long term, lack of movement also has harmful effects on the heart and the body as a whole.
- The danger of working for long periods on a computer: Working in a temporary employment agency now requires you to use a computer on a daily basis: consulting profiles, sorting applications, and communicating with candidates and clients (emails, videoconferencing) are all becoming increasingly digital, via web interfaces or software. The result of this daily use of computers is prolonged exposure to screens, which represents a source of physical risks that are certain in the short term and possible in the long term. The risks associated with working on a computer depend on a number of factors, including the distance between the user and the screen, the brightness of the screen and the brightness of the workroom, and the type of screen used (LCD, OLED, cathode-ray, etc.). Not taking a break to rest your eyes during the working day, by staring into the distance, increases the risk of visual fatigue, discomfort and reduced concentration. The main possible risks associated with prolonged computer screen use in the short term are fatigue, irritability, headaches, blurred vision, eyestrain and dry eyes. The use of close-up vision when working on a computer could potentially encourage certain vision problems, but this has not yet been demonstrated.
- The danger of emotional stress: Working in a temporary employment agency is exposed to a certain amount of professional stress as a result of the commercial aspect of the job: when a client (company) has a human resources need, the temporary employment agency has to do its best to find the candidate who will meet that need. This search for a candidate, via the recruitment process, is going to be a source of pressure, because of the time constraints set by the company, but also because of the profiles available (skills, training). The risks associated with emotional tensions are heightened when the temporary employment agency works for a company with difficult relationships (e.g. criticism of the recruitment skills of the agency's staff if a previous candidate failed to convince the employer).
